EVENT: Special Scarface Screening

Everybody's favorite Cuban gangster, Tony Montana, is back for one special night, Wednesday August 31, 2011. Although (to my knowledge) it isn't playing in Oakland (surprise surprise) you can catch the special screenings of Scarface in the nearby cities of San Francisco, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Union City, Daly City, San Bruno, San Mateo and a few others. The film is being screened to celebrate the upcoming release of the movie on Blu-Ray.

Tix for the 7:30 screenings HERE.

EVENT: Rock The Bells

So, I love hip-hop but I'm not a huge fan. If that makes sense?! lol Anyway, I'll be at Rock The Bells tomorrow at the Shoreline in Mountain View!! There are a few artists that I'm looking forward to seeing, mainly Lauryn Hill, whose "Miseducation" was the soundtrack to my freshman  year at Spelman College. Mine and all my fellow freshman sisters.  Never seen her live so that will definitely be exciting! (Fingers always crossed that she's not having a bad day. lol) I'm also looking forward to seeing Common, Black Star and Nas, who I saw at an ampitheater outside Sac a few years back. Did NOT expect him to rock the way he did! The show was crazy! Never seen Slaughterhouse live, I've heard good things so that'll be cool. My business partner is doing some PR for them at the show and I'll be there to back her up. ;) In addition, I think about 75% of my friends will be in attendance, chilling on the lawn so I'm expecting an All Day Party! Finalized Set Times HERE. Doors open at 10am.

Also in the Bay Area this weekend are Sade & John Legend! They were in San Jose last night and will be in Oakland tonight and tomorrow night at the Oracle Arena. I caught them last week in Sacramento with a friend of mine and the show was top notch. Other than a 45 minute intermission, it was perfection! Go if you can, Sade is BEAUTIFUL. I could just sit and stare at her. She doesn't even have to sing. She could just do a monologue. ;D

Have fun and be safe this weekend.

EVENT: Oakland Uptown Food Crawl

If you love food and Uptown Oakland and trying out new spots and meeting new people, then you might want to snag one of the half priced Groupon deals, for GrubCrawl's Oakland Food Crawl! I live for stuff like this! The crawl is happening NEXT WEDNESDAY, August 17, 2011 at 5:30pm, for only $15pp if you grab the deal in the next three days. From Groupon's site:

Diners who spend all night at the same restaurant risk their legs falling asleep, their food getting cold, or overly familiar tablecloths starting to flirtatiously tickle their knees. Keep your options open with today’s Groupon: for $15, you get a ticket to GrubCrawl USA’s Uptown Oakland food crawl on Wednesday, August 17, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Z Café & Bar. Participants may also park their vehicles and attend a complimentary pre-crawl wine tasting at Grocery Outlet at 5 p.m.
GrubCrawl USA’s cuisine connoisseurs lead customers on meticulously plotted culinary journeys marked by free appetizers, discounted drinks, and fellowship with other foodies. Their inaugural Oakland offering shines its spotlight on a smorgasbord of four downtown destinations: Z Café & Bar, Vo's Restaurant, Ozumo, and 3000 Broadway. Each stop lasts approximately one hour, offering ample opportunity to eat up and drink in each establishment’s most dynamic elements, be it Ozumo’s sleek, modern décor or Z Café & Bar’s skillful bartenders, who tame wild martini glasses with deft mixing techniques. Each dinner destination serves appetizers preselected from their menu and a list of edible banned novels, offering discounted libations with which to wash down their wares. GrubCrawl USA’s crawls draw a diverse crowd of foodies from all walks of life that commiserate as they stroll from hot spot to hot spot, exchanging lists of favorite foods and chef trading cards along the way.
Sounds like YUMMY FUN. My fave. Enjoy!
