The Maltese Falcon is one of my Dad's favorite movies. He played it for the family once when I was younger and though I initially had zero interest in some "old black and white", it turned out to be really good! So I think I'll make it a point to get down to the Paramount and see it on the big screen. You should come too.

THE MALTESE FALCON (1941) - A dastardly crew of crooks is in pursuit of a gold and jewel-encrusted statue of a falcon worth a king's ransom. But when private eye Sam Spade (Humphrey Bogart) gets involved, the stakes shift dramatically. This first motion picture directed by John Huston also featured Bogart's first starring role in a Warner Brothers film and is indisputedly one of the finest film-noir classics of all time. The movie script follows the original Dashell Hammett novel almost word-for-word and the cast delivers their lines with such panache, it seems impossible to imagine any other actors in these roles. Nobody can toss off Sam Spade's sneering tough-guy wisecracks like Bogart. What actress other than Mary Astor as the conniving Brigid O'Shaughnessy could lie so seductively? And, of course, Sydney Greenstreet, Peter Lorre, and Elisha Cook, Jr. play their villainous roles to absolute sinister perfection.
